From The Clash and Joy Division to The Specials, a host of British bands joined forces in 1978 to counter the rise of the neo-fascist British National Front and increasing racial violence. Under the Rock Against Racism initiative, they took a decisive stand against marginalisation. Punk rock’s influence on this anti-fascist movement proved to be very effective. With a nod to the aesthetics of fanzine culture and featuring unreleased concert footage and interviews, the film examines the context in which the movement arose while drawing striking parallels to our current situation. Von The Clash über Joy Division bis zu The Specials gehen 1978 zahlreiche britische Bands gemeinsam auf die Bühne. Sie reagieren damit auf das Erstarken der neofaschistischen Partei British National Front und die Zunahme rassistischer Gewalt. Als Teil von Rock Against Racism wollen sie ein positives Zeichen gegen Ausgrenzung setzen. Punk übt einen prägenden Einfluss auf die antifaschistische Bewegung aus. Angelehnt an die Ästhetik von Fanzines, wirft der Film mit bisher unveröffentlichten Archivaufnahmen der Konzerte und Interviews mit den damaligen Aktivist*innen einen Blick auf die Hintergründe und zieht beachtliche Parallelen zur Gegenwart. 1979 ist die British National Front politisch geschlagen, aber der Kampf gegen Rassismus ist noch lange nicht vorbei.
